Did i have a great day today as part of First Presbyterian. I started out today getting a chance to serve communion at Barrington with several of the residents there, as I do every first Wednesday. There are some of our folks present, and some who aren’t. It was great to share this time with these folks, listening to memories of WW2, of growing up in small town America, of their churches and what life was like for them.
Then this evening, I joined with Peggy to spend a couple of hours with a group of our children and one of their parents as we prepared for their first communion this Sunday. It was lots of fun as we baked communion bread, made banners, ate dinner and learned about what Jesus did for us with this beautiful sacrament as they get ready to share in this sacrament for the first time.
Now that I am home, I am thinking about how important both of these events were because they remind me of the church as it was, and the church as it will be, and how important it is for each of us to support the church so that these kids will grow up have the same great memories over the years as the folks at Barrington have. I hope that you will join us in worship this Sunday so that you can join with these families as they celebrate, but also join us as each of us make a financial commitment to support the church for next year. This is really important especially this year as we get ready to welcome a new staff member as Director of Education and Family Ministries. It is going to be really exciting, so I hope you will help out. We really need every member, every family to join in.
See you Sunday.
